Hi, my name is Urooba Jamal.

I'm a Canadian journalist passionate about international news, with several years of experience covering a wide range of beats, from politics and human rights, to business and more.

I’m trilingual in English, Urdu, and Spanish and have lived in eight countries across four continents. I currently work at Al Jazeera as a staff jouranlisr and am based in the Middle East, and have previously worked for Business Insider, The Associated Press, and TeleSUR while based in London, UK and Latin America.

My reporting has also taken me on the ground in Ecuador, Mexico, Denmark, Pakistan, Oman, Sri Lanka, Kenya and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

My past freelance work has been published in over a dozen international outlets, including CNN, The Washington Post, and VICE. In June 2019, I was named "Journalist of the Month" by the International Journalists' Network. I hold a Master’s degree in Journalism, Media, and Globalisation through the Mundus Journalism program, for which I received a €49,000 full-ride scholarship from the European Commission.
